A TRULY GRAND, GRAND OPENING – Leadership Center Grand Opening Sep 15, 2018

SCOUTING ACTIVITIES, LEADERSHIP GAMES, TOURS, HOT DOGS AND A COMMEMORATIVE PATCH HIGHLIGHTED THE LEADERSHIP CENTER GRAND OPENING

Thousands of Scouting members, parents and interested community members  flocked to the Leadership Center Grand Opening on Saturday, September 15, 2018. Participants took part in Scouting activities that ranged from the rock climbing, archery range and games in the TeamBuilding Center, to a visiting a model campsite, trying the flying squirrel, mobile archery and Scouting Adventure Summit Climbing/ Ropes Courser (held-over from the State Fair) on the Base Camp grounds, plus  leadership games, tours and Scout Shops sales inside the Leadership Center.  Filmmaker Syd Bean personally introduced his Feature Feature Film Documentary – “Ohiyesa: The Soul of an Indian” which shares the incredible story of this historic figure and local Scouting founder who is honored with a bronze statue in the Leadership Center Courtyard.

Scout Troop 72 of Woodbury cooked and handed out nearly 1,000 hot dogs, chips and even more beverages as participants enjoyed a free lunch and kept hydrated in the unseasonably hot conditions. KARE 11 sent a reporter who captured some of the action that was shared on their 6 PM Saturday News.

Those who completed 5 activities earned a commemorative Leadership Center patch, with nearly 2,000 awarded!

Special thanks to those that made this possible including the new Base Camp Youth Advisory Committee and members of Grey Wolf Staff who hosted the leadership games and model campsite, Troop 72 for their culinary expertise, the Council Base Camp Committee for staffing the Scouting Information Booth, as well as the volunteers and staff who helped with archery, climbing and the mobile ropes course.

Base Camp was a flurry of activity from 10 AM – 4:00 PM, reinforcing that our Northern Star Scouting Headquarters is actually in a camp and that it is a resource for the entire community.
