RECORD MILLION DOLLAR DAY FOR SCOUTING KICKS OFF NEW YEAR

$1,176,000 RAISED BY END OF SECOND BREAKFAST

Nearly 900 generous Scouting supporters took part in the two breakfasts that make up the Million Dollar Day for Scouting. For the first time ever, this event topped $1 million by the end of the 25 hour period, reaching 33% of our 2018 Friends of Scouting goal.

THE EVENT IS MORE THAN FUNDRAISING. IT WAS A CHANCE TO:

• Hear from Scouting youth Tou Cag Xiong of Troop 60 about how Scouting helped him become more helpful, organized and able to lead others.
• See video highlights of the past year and a “nearly live” video of Northern Star Council President, Bill Brody lofted into the air as the first “Flying Squirrel” station participant at our new Base Camp high ropes course. (watch it below)
• Find out how Scouting skills served keynote speaker Andy Gannon as he was on the 35W Bridge when it collapsed and the life lessons the experience brought to him that can apply to everyone.
• Learn from President Brody of plans to work toward our council vision or having a positive influence on 100% of the young people in our community – expanding programs for girls, offering the Base Camp experience for team building and leadership training for members and non-members, as well as continuing our collaboration and support of Girl Scouts and other youth development organizations.
• Honor the generosity and positive leadership influence of Paul O. Johnson and, posthumously, the late Harold C. Meissner, as Scoutmasters of Philanthropy.
• Understand more of how the Scout Oath and Law guided the National BSA decision to extend programs to girls, and that Northern Star Council is looked to nationally as an innovator and leader among Boy Scout councils in remarks by Patrick Sterrett, Deputy Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America.
• Recognize Scout Brian Clark for his SCUBA rescue of a diving partner with the National BSA Medal of Merit for his calm, quick thinking and actions 25 feet below the surface of Juggle Lake.
