2015 Spring Camporee - Aviation Camporee - May 29-30, 2015 - Results and Photos

Event Details

We told you it was GONNA BE BIG... AND IT SURE WAS! The Spring Camporee & Aviation Day held May 29-31 was a spectacular event attended by over 700 Boy Scouts, Webelos and Venturers!

The excitement kicked off on Saturday with the US Marine Corps preparing our Scouts for the opening ceremony while skydivers parachuted in with the American flag! From there the excitement kept building as we had a fantastic combination of events, exhibits, demonstrations and Merit Badge sessions throughout the day.
All day long there was a whirlwind of activity as stunt planes buzzed the tower and helicopters flew overhead. Our Scouts kept busy talking with exhibitors that included NASA, numerous Aviation Colleges, representatives from our US Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force & Marines) and cadets & leaders from Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) from the University of Minnesota and the University of North Dakota. We also heard a talk from a decorated WW2 Fighter Pilot and Scouts were able to learn about many different career options in Aviation including government, military and civilian options.

The camporee wrapped up with a fantastic campfire with dance music, skits from many of the units, and finally Scoutmaster Bucky introducing us to the new Pack-o-matic.. a fantastic labor saving device formerly only available to Scoutmasters (but NOW available to all for just 3 easy payments of $14.99.)

On top of all this, however, the highlight for just about everyone was the EAA Young Eagle flights. Close to 200 Scouts were able to experience flight in a private plane, including some that flew in an open cockpit bi-plane. Another 90+ Scouts were also able to take helicopter flights through Hummingbird Aviation.

This spectacular event would not have been possible without the amazing volunteers of both Lake Minnetonka & Crow River districts. They were able to put together an event that left everyone smiling! A HUGE THANK YOU to all of our volunteers, exhibitors, the Buffalo Airport staff and everyone else who pulled together to put on a really fun event that definitely made an impact on our Scouts!
