Scouts BSA – Next Steps for Units

Dear Lake Minnetonka District Committee Members and Commissioner Team,
Yesterday, Northern Star Council held a joint meeting for District Chairs and District Commissioners. One of the key topics reviewed was the upcoming program change for Scouts BSA, including how we will work with our charter partners in determining whether they will charter a Linked Troop or a Girl Troop.
On Friday, Northern Star Council will send a letter to all Chartered Org Representatives, Scoutmasters, and Committee Chairs sharing the Linked Troop model and the interest form for forming Linked Troops or Girls Troops. We’ll share that letter with this team once we receive a copy.
Between Friday and the end of October, you’ll see a lot of activity to plan for and train unit leaders on Scouts BSA. Our goal is that by December, we have identified at least one Troop that will welcome girls in February 2019 — though I’m sure we’ll have many more.
We’ll be sharing more information and questions as we enter into this fall, but we wanted to share this information as it becomes available.
