Scouting Show and Tell: Longtime leaders

Scouts succeed thanks to the tireless efforts of adults who step up to lead and guide. Some of those adult leaders volunteer for decades, like Cubbedge Phillips.

Troop 1 of Miami, Fla., formed in 1935; Phillips joined in 1939. In 1952, he became the troop’s Scoutmaster — the fourth in its history. For the next 47 years (from 1952 to 1999 when the troop disbanded), Phillips served as Scoutmaster. During his tenure, he introduced hundreds of Scouts to the life-changing principles and fun adventures Scouting has to offer.

“All of us who learned from him are today, better men and better citizens because of what he taught us,” says Tom Williams (Eagle Class of 1963).

Some of those Scouts remained close friends to their Scoutmaster, hosting a reunion dinner in his honor a couple of times last year.

Perhaps your unit has a longtime leader you’d like to recognize. That means it’s time for Show and Tell, where Scouters show their favorite photos and tell the story behind them.
