The State Fair is done which means school has start for most kids today in Minnesota. School Open Houses are where our top recruiting units are seeing the most foot traffic in promoting our Cub Scout packs! What we have found successfully working in the units that are being successful in recruiting is having a bright visible display, leaders and cub scouts present to talk to families and information on the packs program. It is key to have information to hand out on when the first meetings are, information about the pack itself, a pack calendar, when does the unit camp, do they have STEM opportunities – we are seeing this is becoming a big reason why families join. Do units have props at the table such as pinewood derby cars, rockets, raingutter regatta boats and so on.
Hear from Matt Bruch, Cubmaster of Pack 285 in Mound, on what they did to make their Open House and School Night Successful (at min 5 and 44 secs in the video):
You can promote these on Social media by using Facebook, Instagram and the Next Door app to name a few. In additional, social media kits have been created to help with this and can be customized to the specific pack http://www.lakeminnetonkadistrict.org/membership/recruitment-guide-and-resources/
If you’ve missed your School’s Open House, don’t fret! School Night for Scouting is a great way to catch-up on any missed opportunities. School reservations have been made by the Council — but please stop by and confirm them next week, prior to School Night for Scouting.
