MATT VERWEG JOINS RANKS OF SCOUTS EARNING ALL MERIT BADGES

N EAGLE SCOUT AND EARNER OF 137 BADGES

In a rare year for Northern Star Council merit badge attainment, Matthew Verweg of Troop 384 joins two fellow Scouts in this lofty achievement!

Matt, a high school junior, completed his last merit badge – Theatre- in November. He enjoyed the Scuba Diving Merit Badge most and found Bugling the most challenging.

“It took two years of lessons” says Verweg. Beyond this challenge, “Scouting has given me great experiences, especially high adventure and international opportunities. I went to the World Jamboree in Japan, was part of a troop in Holland for three months and have been sailing on a 52’ Schooner on Lake Superior.”

Verweg also had a unique Eagle project, helping refurbish and illustrate a scale model of the solar system for a church camp in Motley, MN that was a mile long, with the sun the size of a basketball.

When asked why he would recommend Scouting to others, Matt said “For Fun and high adventure.” It’s easy to see why. Matt’s Scouting experiences have also included attending the 2017 National Jamboree, a service project as part of the Philmont Order of the Arrow Trail Crew, being a founding member of the Honor Crew 777 and sailing with fellow members of his Sea Scout Ship 248, where he is also a member.

Congratulations Matthew!
