Make getting outdoors with your family a tradition this #Campsgiving

Food, family and fellowship are Thanksgiving traditions. If you’re a Scouting family, enjoying the Great Outdoors is already something you appreciate.

Adding a little outdoor adventure to your Thanksgiving this year will make it memorable, a lot of fun and could start a new tradition for your family: Campsgiving.

So, what is Campsgiving?

Campsgiving is the Boy Scouts of America’s way of celebrating some favorite parts of Thanksgiving and taking that celebration outdoors. This Thanksgiving, unplug from technology and plug into connecting with your favorite people in the best place — the wide-open air, of course!

First, invite your friends and family to your Campsgiving celebration, either in-person or virtual. Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, follow local and state guidelines, and if you decide to make it into a Scouting event, take a look at this restarting checklist beforehand. And remember your face coverings, social distancing and not sharing items; high-risk individuals may need to opt out.

Campsgiving is all about getting outside, so next, pick a spot – a local park, your backyard or a campground all make perfect backdrops to a good time. Lastly, plan a menu. If you are looking for some meal ideas, check out the Scout Shop’s Scout Chef Kitchen.

Get (and win) gear

To make sure you’ve got what you need to make your Campsgiving (and all camping adventures afterwards) successful, visit the Scout Shop from Nov. 9-Nov. 14, when you can save 25% off select camping gear. All you need to do is use the promo code ADVENTURE at checkout.

This year, the Scout Shop has lined up four chances to score some free gear, too. You can participate by tuning into the Campsgiving extravaganza on Facebook Live on Friday, Nov. 13 at 12:30 p.m. CST. When you comment during the Facebook Live video, you will automatically be entered to win a prize. And, those prizes are… drumroll… three GCI camp tables and one grand prize Campsgiving bundle that will include a Lodge 4-in-1 Dutch Oven tool, a Klymit Static V sleeping pad, a GSI 7-Piece dinnerware set, a GCI master cook station, and an ENO Moonshine lantern.

The Campsgiving extravaganza will also feature new Scout Chef Kitchen recipes, tips from a gear expert and checking in with a couple of troops to find out how they are celebrating Campsgiving this year. You can share how you’re celebrating by sharing photos and recipes on social media using the #Campsgiving hashtag.
