Dear Unit Leaders,

Congratulations on the successful completion of JTE 2.0 Guideposts 1 thru 3. Now we move on to the last of the JTE tasks.

All units should now be working on completing JTE 2.0 Guideposts 4 (Basic Adult Leader Training) and 5 (Advanced Training). These two guideposts must be successfully completed by October 31, 2017 in order to count towards JTE. That deadline gives each unit just under 2 months to complete the training tasks.

Information on the guideposts and how to prepare for them can be found in the “2017-2018 Planning Calendar and Resource Guide” supplied by the Northern Star Council or can be found online at http://www.northernstarbsa.org/for-members/journey

I have included the guideposts below:

Guidepost 4: BASIC ADULT LEADER TRAINING

Cub Scout

  • Fully Trained* Cubmaster and Committee Chair no later than October 31
  • One Den Leader, in each Den, 30-day trained** no later than October 31

** A Den Leader must complete online training step 1 “Before the first meeting” and step 2 “First 30 days” PLUS Youth Protection Training by Oct 31. Step 3 “Position trained” must be completed by Dec 31. Alternatively, a Den Leader can satisfy this guidepost by participating in a live program before Oct 31.

Boy Scout

  • Fully Trained* Scoutmaster and Committee Chair no later than Oct 31
  • 80%+ ASMs fully trained* no later than Oct 31
  • Present one Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) course by Oct 31 each calendar year

Venturing

  • 80%+ Assistant Advisors fully trained* no later than Oct 31
  • Present one Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews (ILSC) course by Oct 31 each calendar year

*A fully trained adult leader must have position specific training AND youth protection training.

Guidepost 5: ADVANCED TRAINING

Cub Scout

  • Have at least one Wood Badge trained*** direct contact leader no later than October 31

Boy Scout

  • Have at least one Wood Badge trained*** direct contact leader no later than Oct 31
  • Have at least one Grey Wolf/NYLT or Kodiak Challenge trained youth leader complete the course each year no later than Oct 31

Venturing

  • Have at least one Wood Badge trained*** direct contact leader or Sea Badge trained leader no later than Oct 31
  • Have at least one Grey Wolf/NYLT or Kodiak Challenge trained youth leader complete the course each year no later than Oct 31

*** “Wood Badge trained” qualifies once the adult leader completes the Wood Badge coursework and is working on, but may not have completed, the practical (Ticket) component.

These guideposts are similar as in previous years and all units should be familiar in how to complete them.

There are many opportunities for training

Please take advantage of all the training opportunities available to you with the District, Council, and online.
