HAVE YOU THANKED YOUR ADULT LEADERS RECENTLY – District Award Nominations Due Apr 15, 2018

Dear Unit Leader and Committee Chair:

Have you thanked your adult leaders recently? Every adult involved in Scouting puts in time and energy to make Scouting happen for our youth.  And while seeing a Scout thrive in the program is its own reward, everyone (you included) appreciates recognition of their effort and hard work.

The District Dinner is the Adult Volunteer’s time to shine and be recognized. To do that, we need YOUR help to write a nomination! There are multiple awards and ways to recognize one of your great volunteers.  In order to make selections in time for the District Dinner, we need to have all nominations submitted online by this Sunday, April 15th, at 10am (CDT).

Glowing Ember Award  – The ‘Glowing Ember Award’ is presented to those parents and leaders who during the past year have given that extra bit of enthusiasm, which is so much a part of a successful pack, troop, or crew program. The Glowing Ember is selected by the Unit and awarded from the District. Each UNIT COMMITTEE should select ONE INDIVIDUAL (parent or scouter) FROM THEIR UNIT to receive the District’s ‘Glowing Ember Award’ at the dinner. This is a great way for the unit to provide special recognition to a deserving scouter.

Position Specific Awards (closed 04/15/18 at 10:00AM)Who is that outstanding Den Leader, Assistant Scoutmaster, or the great Scouting family that you know? The one that is always “making it happen” either up in front or “behind the scenes”? Make sure you nominate your Outstanding Cub Scout or Boy Scout leader, Cubmaster or Scoutmaster, Unit Committee Member / Chair, Commissioner, District Member, or other Leader who you feel makes a contribution above the rest. Nominations will be “blinded” and then selected by the District nominations committee prior to the District Dinner.

District Award of Merit  (closed 04/15/18 at 10:00AM)  the District Award of Merit is a council award presented by districts in the same manner that the Silver Beaver is a national award presented by councils. A nominee must have rendered noteworthy service to youth in Scouting, outside Scouting, or both. The nature and value of “noteworthy service to youth” may consist of a single plan or decisions that contributed vitally to the lives of large numbers of youth or it may have been given to a small group over an extended period of time. Consideration must be given to the nominee’s Scouting position and the corresponding opportunity to render outstanding service beyond the expectations of that Scouting position. Nominations will be “blinded” and then selected by the District nominations committee prior to the District Dinner.

This is a great opportunity to thank our volunteers. I hope you join me in writing several nominations for all of the great scouters we have working in our District.

I hope to see all of you at the District Dinner on May 3rd where we will recognize our adult leaders and celebrate that “Volunteers are a Treasure!”.
