FREE PHYSICALS DAY – Apr 28, 2018

We understand that the BSA policy requiring annual physicals causes hardship to some families who are not able to afford an annual physical for their son or daughter each year before camp. It is important for you to know that we are committed to providing greater opportunities for youth to attend camp and not additional roadblocks to prevent it.

To that end, we have worked out a special opportunity for youth to receive a free camp physical.

Dr. Christopher Tashjian, lead camp Doctor for Many Point Scout Camp, suggested this option and has taken on great efforts to be able to provide this opportunity.

Date & Time:

April 28, 2018 from 9am – 12pm (Golden Valley) or 1pm – 4pm (St. Paul)  at the Council Service Center.

Eligibility:

In efforts to keep the group size manageable for the volunteer physicians, we are restricting the eligibility to only participants who are of need and are attending a Boy Scout Resident program this coming summer.

Registration:

No registration is necessary. However, the physicals will be done in your order of arrival (similar to an Urgent Care situation). When you arrive, you’ll sign in and then wait for your name to be called. Please do not arrive earlier than the stated time.

F.A.Q.s

How can I help?

Dr. Tashjian has a group of volunteer physicians to conduct the physicals but we are in need of more assistance. If you have a doctor or other practitioner of the healing arts in your unit/community who might be willing to assist please contact them and email Evan Yingst ([email protected]) so we can put them in touch with Dr. Tashjian. Additional help would be greatly appreciated.

We especially need help from people who are able to take blood pressure and measure height/weight.

What should each youth bring?

Each youth should bring a copy of the annual physical form with them to be filled out by the physicians. These forms are available on both the Many Point and Tomahawk websites.

Who is conducting the physicals?

Dr. Tashjian has put together a group of licensed physicians to complete the physical examinations.

What do I pay?

There is no fee but please remember to have participating youth members thank the crew of doctors for volunteering their time and efforts.

How are often are physicals required?

Every 12 months for participants going to camp that lasts longer than 72 hours.

Do we need physicals for Family Camp?

No; however we do ask all participants to fill out health histories.
