Duke of Edinburgh Award Leader Training @ Univ of Scouting

An Internationally Recognized Achievement

Founded in 1956 by HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the world’s leading youth development award with over a million-youth participating in over 140 countries. It is now available to ALL youth aged 14 to 24.

The Award is an exciting self-development program focusing on creating global citizens and empowering young people on a journey of personal discovery and development of life skills through service, physical fitness, skill development and an adventurous journey. The Award is achieved through activities within the local community and is largely self-directed. The Award also provides the perfect opportunity to further challenge Eagle, Summit and Quartermaster award holders and keep them connected to Scouting, as well as also work alongside those awards. It can be an alternative to traditional Scout advancement but can also assist Scouts obtain rank.

Unit Leaders can attend the FIRST “Duke of Edinburgh Award Leader Training” that Northern Star Council has to offer at University of Scouting on October 26th. The Midwest Training Officer for the “Duke of Edinburgh”; Raha Dempsey will coming from the Chicago Office to teach the course. This training will provide you with an international certification as a “Duke of Edinburgh Award Leader”. This course will enable you as a unit leader to run the award at the unit level, giving leaders the knowledge and skills required to support Award Participants through their Award journey.

There will also be two upcoming informational sessions at the Leadership Center on Wednesday October 2nd and Wednesday November 6th from 6-8pm in addition to the class on Saturday October 26th at University of Scouting.
