What to expect at this month’s Roundtable Meeting

The monthly District Roundtable meeting provides an information and training forum for adults involved as leaders in the Scouting program. Parents and children are welcome to attend. These meetings allow attendees from all parts of the Scouting program to:

◾ Discuss topics of interest, both formally and informally

◾ Learn new skills and program topics for your unit

◾ Learn about upcoming District and Council events

◾ Meet and exchange ideas with other leaders from the District

Roundtable is open to all adults involved with the Scouting program. Registered leaders are especially encouraged to attend.

At the December Roundtable we will have lots of great information on advanced training programs, Order of the Arrow (OA), and excellent Cub Scout programs!

We encourage everyone to bring a plate of your favorite sweets/treats to share with your fellow Scouters!
And just in case we don’t have enough treats for you, we will be treated to Subway sandwiches, provided by the Ridgedale store in Minnetonka.

Philmont Training Center: An amazing training experience for leaders – and fun for their families!
We will have a seasoned veteran of the Philmont Training Center faculty share his experience and get you pumped up to attend.

7:30 – 8:20 – Boy Scout – Boy Scout Breakout Program 

OA, Grey Wolf, and Wood Badge! – We have some important information regarding the upcoming Order of the Arrow elections to share.  We also have a special overview on Grey Wolf – what is it, why you should send boys to it, and details on how to get them registered.  We’ll also provide an overview of the Wood Badge training program.

7:30 – 8:20 – Cub Scouts – Cub Scout Breakout Program

Cub Requirements Revised November 30th Gives Leaders More Flexibility – The Boy Scouts of America has announced modifications to Cub Scouting that make the program more flexible for busy parents, den leaders and Cubmasters. The modifications are designed to ensure that adventure requirements are achievable by today’s Cub Scout dens within a program year. The changes take effect today, November 30, 2016.

The quick takeaway? Most of the adventures have reduced the number of items required for completion, enabling most loops to be completed within two meetings, instead of three meetings.

Short notice? Yeah! We just found out ourselves! We’ll start briefly with a high-level overview on the changes, then spin into groups for a closer study by rank.

Advanced Training and more! – During the Cub Scout break out, we will present an overview of Wood Badge program and provide insights on why it’s so important to get members of your pack to Wood Badge. We will also provide some excellent Cub Scout program ideas to help you run your unit.

OA Chapter Meeting

The Order of the Arrow is a “Brotherhood of Scout Honor Campers”, often referred to as the Brotherhood of Cheerful Service. We are a group of people who have been elected by our peers as being capable of upholding the honor through our continued actions of cheerful service to others. It is a youth-run organization, meaning that all important decisions are made by the youth (age 20 or less) under advisement of the adult Advisors.

Meetings of the Lake Minnetonka Chapter of the Totanhan Nakaha Lodge, Order of the Arrow, are held in conjunction with the district roundtables on the first Thursday of each month.

7:00 – 8:30 – OA Chapter Meeting During Roundtable

Chapter officers should attend, and all troops should send their OA Troop Representative (a youth leadership position) or another OA member to represent their unit, but all OA members are invited to attend these meetings. We are planning for a big year and need lots of help.
